Ruth Ann Butler

STEWARDSHIP AWARD

Since 1987 Ruth Ann Butler has worked in her hometown of Greenville to preserve the history of African Americans and build a place for people to research their own history. She has collected and displayed artifacts and material and hosted researchers and schoolchildren. Butler’s vision and her tenacity in realizing that vision, is contained in the Greenville Cultural Exchange Center, a renovated historic home in downtown Greenville. The jury celebrates not only her stewardship of an historic building but also her stewardship some of the most important history of her hometown.
