Through the auspices of the Darnall W. And Susan F. Boyd Foundation and by her deep interest in and support of the historic, cultural, natural and educational institutions of Columbia and the Midlands, Susan Boyd has made a long lasting positive difference for residents and visitors alike. The jury, and indeed the entire state, appreciates, as just one example, the transformational impact on the 1818 Hampton-Preston Mansion and its garden and horticultural program. The partnership fostered by Susan Boyd led to an unprecedented Garden recreation, a fully developed horticultural program and the construction of an historically appropriate greenhouse and summer house at the Hampton Preston Mansion. More importantly she helped create a magnet for engagement for the entire community.
